Hula Girl Cupcake Tower

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Dark chocolate cupcakes topped with chocolate buttercream decorated with hula girls, hula boys, palm trees and mini umbrellas.  They didn’t just taste great, they looked hella-cute too!  The birthday girl (my 9yr old niece) was very pleased, and so were her guests.

Vodka and Diet, please, Bartender

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Vodka and Diet is a pretty traditional drink at a bar or club.  And it is true to its namesake, a bit of vodka and a bit of diet soda, some ice cubes and a straw.  Viola!  Some people may add a cherry or even a lime but it is most often enjoyed without a [...]

Easter, Tweet Easter

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Wow, Easter came, and went and I was a little surprised to see that not many people actually celebrated the religious side of it. No matter what store I visited, I heard, “But, MOOOOOOOOOM, I want the big Easter basket!“ and, “That candy is gross, I want the expensive kind.” It seems [...]

The Marshall Won’t Mind

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

A friend of mine is having a birthday party for her son, he’ll be the big 1!  He’ll be needing cowboy cookies for his cowboy pals so I came up with these Deputy Badges.  Sugar cookie stars frosted with royal icing, Kopykakes writing, gold dragees and dusted with edible gold dust.  They were a bit [...]

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Captain, Captain, there are sharks afin!
This weekend my nieces visited and we worked together on a great cupcake project.  Shark Attack cupcakes.  We started off with a basic vanilla cake recipe and then added some red food coloring to make the cake look gory like blooooooooood…    Ewwwwwwwwwww.  And, scaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrry!
For the frosting we added blue to [...]

Luau Madness!

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

After having been sick for the last week and a half, I decided to bake something fun, for myself, as a bit of “feel better” non-medicine.  I decided on the following recipe which I altered from the original found in my 100 Best Cupcake Recipes book – Tropical Luau Cupcakes.  Although the recipe calls for [...]

Sleeping In the Stars

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

This weekends project was a 3-tiered wedding style baby shower cake that turned out to be only 2-tiered.  3 tiers was just too much cake.  Like the cupcake party, I used a basic vanilla butter recipe and swirled in an amazing chocolate recipe (using sour creme for extra moist texture and a tad of instant [...]

Giant Mardi Gras cupcake baked for my nieces 1st Birthday

It’s THE AWESOMEST, Auntie!

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

I survived a 10 year olds birthday party this past weekend.  I survived said party attended by twenty-seven 10 year olds.  There was a karaoke DJ, a face painter and a seriously loud sound system.  Those kiddos were rockin’ out!
Of course, I made the much talked about guitar cake.  I started on it on Thursday [...]
